Shop or do errands with your children and make it your special time with them.
Go to places early, or when they are least crowded. it's more efficient and so much more peaceful and enjoyable when there is ample parking.
For bigger kids, give them a budget and guidelines and some freedom to make choices. allow your teens and tweens, do their back to school shopping, both for clothes and supplies. They can't complain when they pick it.
Let them know if they buy it they have to use it, wear it out or do without - Stick to your rules.
When your kids are old enough to choose their clothes, they're old enough to do their own laundry too. They make better choices at the store when they know something needs to be line dried, hand washed, dry cleaned, etc.
Be a good consumer yourself, and your kids will be better to shop with and better shoppers. Respect the merchandise in stores, handle it with care, treat it well when you get it home. Show your kids it takes hard work and money to be able to buy things.
